The Third Medical Battalion's ambulance C-11 is loaded for transfer across the Rhine River on a heavy ponton ferry near Worms, Germany. Most likely it is the first ambulance crossing the Rhine for the Seventh Army. It's driver, Dell S. Thornton of Company C, Third Medical, is seen next to the ambulance. Support rafts ferried troops and equipment across the Rhine prior to completion of the floating bridges.
