The movie version of Joseph Heller's novel features impressive scenes of B-25 bombers and their crews as they struggle through the absurdities of what has become to be known as one of the greatest satirical anti-war films. Incredible cast, directed by Mike Nichols with screenplay by Buck Henry, includes Alan Arkin, Jon Voight, Richard Benjamin, Orson Welles, Anthony Perkins, Martin Sheen and more.




DVD: Tora! Tora! Tora!
Dramatization based on the actual events leading to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Considered an accurate documentary using vivid action scenes that have been re-used in many subsequent films of the Pacific war.




DVD: Schindler's List
Incredibly emotional and true story of Catholic businessman Oskar Schindler's efforts in saving the lives of over a thousand Polish Jews during the Holocaust. This Steven Spielberg directed film is consistently ranked in the top-ten of the greatest films of all time. A must-see.




Photographer
A rare documentary based on the earliest use of Agfa color slides taken by the chief accountant Walter Genewein in the Lodz Ghetto in Poland. The tale is hauntingly brilliant in its insight of the ghetto and the treatment of its human inhabitants as slave laborers for clothing and products for the German population. This is a story of the Holocaust that brings it to a human level far beyond the death-toll figures.




DVD: Is Paris Burning?
Star-studded 1966 epic written by Gore Vidal and Francis Ford Coppola using some of the biggest French stars of the 1960s tells the story of the liberation of Paris in a decidedly French, although not inaccurate, way. Although not well-regarded by American audiences at the time, some regard this as an extremely compelling and emotional film of the events surrounding the liberation.




DVD: Battle of Britain
Star-studded epic with spectacular flying scenes and an incredible collection of vintage aircraft tells the story of the German attempt to soften Britain for an impending invasion that never came. Although a financial failure, the realistic action will leave viewers with thoughts of the bravery of the "so few" who answered the call in Britain's darkest moment of the war.




DVD: Das Boot
The most expensive German film ever made at the time of its 1981 release, the story takes the viewer into the German U-Boat U-96 for what is described as a "journey into madness" showing "what war is all about". With a strong anti-war message and meticulous attention to detail this historically accurate must-see film is emotionally intense and highly acclaimed by critics.




DVD: Empire of the Sun
Steven Spielberg film stars 13-year-old Chris tian Bale, John Malcovich and Miranda Richardson in an adaption of a J.G. Ballard novel fictionalizing the Japanese conquest of Shanghai in 1941 and the subsequent internment of a young English boy (Bale) with other Western prisoners kept by the Japanese throughout the war. This gritty and artistic film was acclaimed by both the American and British film industries including a special National Board of Review award for Bale as Best Performance by a Juvenile Actor.




DVD: Hiroshima
1995 Japanese/Canadian release follows the decision-making process in a documentary style facing President Harry Truman after Franklin Roosevelt's death. Historical footage, dramatized footage and interviews merge in this three-hour thought-provoking film that lays bare the human decisions and opinions that lead to the two bombings that changed the world and ended the WWII.




DVD SET: Gods and Generals plus Gettysburg
Two colorful companion films based on Michael Sharra's Civil War novels reveal the American Civil War in brutal realism in tales told through the minds of the General's and officers as the events of the war from 1858 to the field at Gettysburg in 1863 unfold in a tremendous visual and thought-provoking feast.
