Tens of thousands of German soldiers were captured in and around Munich. Many were old men or young boys conscripted in the final months of the war. When the Allies faced the Rhine River in March 1945, Hitler had a million troops along with Heinrich Himmler's Volksturm armies ready to commit to the defense of Nazi glory. In the end, more than 8,500,000 military casualties were logged by the Germans. |
