General DeGaulle ordered the pomp and circumstance for a February 20 ceremony in Colmar awarding the American Third Division the Croix de Guerre with Palm for its action in the Colmar Pocket. A second Croix de Guerre for its action in the Vosges campaign allowed the Third Division to wear the French Fourragere.
