The Third Division spent the last few days of the Second World War in Europe in the same surroundings that Adolf Hitler found his final inspiration for "Mein Kampf" and adopted as his fortress home. The division moved south from Munich towards the Bavarian Alps where the Allies still believed to find a well-fortified enemy in what they called the German National Redoubt.
