By June 24 the Third Division was bivouacked north of Naples in Pozzuoli where it made preparations for the southern France landings scheduled for August 15, 1944. VI Corps was transferred to the control of the American Seventh Army as the Fifth Army and the British Eighth Army continued past Rome and by the end of July had driven north as far as Florence and Pisa. |
