The Anzio terrain was crisscrossed by what the Italians called fossi, the British called wadi and the Americans called ditches. Note the slit trenches and foxholes in the upper bank. The blown bridge is bypassed by a temporary structure and bulldozer-cuts across the banks. Note also that the road has been blown in the upper right. |
